NOW Mazda 3 Compatible!

Meet VersaTuner Lite - We've worked with the crew at VersaTuner to fill a void in the ND calibration market and the results are in! With modern OEM management, your results are limited by the parameter boundaries Mazda has put in place. Even with the addition of bolt-on components like higher flowing exhausts and cold air sourcing intakes, the factory computer will only compensate with fuel - and sometimes not even enough! The real power comes with Ignition timing, Valve Timing, Fuel Tuning, Throttle control and a number of other parameters that help to unlock the otherwise tethered setup.

How does this work? With the purchase of this specific product you'll receive all of the hardware and software required to calibrate your naturally aspirated, bolt-on or entirely stock ND MX-5. Once your VT Lite kit arrives, there are short instructions to follow in order to collect information for Fab9 to build your calibration.

What if I have bigger plans to modify my car in the future? Great! This is a preferred platform for manipulation of the OEM ECU and it's not limited to our shelf performance calibrations. Custom tuning can be done in the same fashion as other platforms have done in the past. With our Pro Tuning service, you'll collect data on your specific configuration and we can issue tailored remapping to suit your unique vehicle. This is limited to a couple of revisions before you're directed to an hourly rate program where we're happy to update the car as frequently as needed.

This calibration includes the review and revision of your data logs/calibration. If needed, we will revise the file 4 times to get you dialed in within 12 months of the purchase. Any updates beyond this will only be needed if you make changes to your hardware. Beyond these metrics you can simply purchase hourly tuning found HERE.

Details:

  • 14-17WHP on a completely stock ND1 MX-5\
  • 14-17WHP on a completely stock Mazda 3 2.0L
  • 7-11WHP on a completely stock ND2 MX-5
  • 8-12WHP on a completely stock ND2 1.5L
  • Includes USB/OBD Connection
  • Windows Compatible ONLY, no MAC devices

  • Compatible with ND1 and the ND2 generations
  • 3 file requests are included. Beyond that we can handle it as an hourly tuning program.

NOTICE: If you're using a CAN device on the vehicles network such as the MX5 things devices, they need to be temporarily disconnected. Not uninstalled, just disconnected. You might be faced with an error message otherwise.

NOTICE: If you're ND2 and you select E85, you'll need M-CAL Injectors for your car to safely operate at a full RPM range. They can be found HERE.

    BEST MOD EVER

Posted by MARCELO MENA on May 7th 2024

By far the best mod. Every miata owner should do this. Idle is perfect, shifting gears can't be smoother than this.. (revs don't drop and it keeps car constant) Power delivery is extremely constant and the amount of power the car produces it's beyond amazing! Since our miatas are so light, even 8hp it feels like a lot more. Car is just completely different in a better way. Bryan from Fab9 sent me the tune in literally 5 hours after sending him my logs! Customer service has been top tier and I will continue to spread the word of this tune and Bryan's service. Thank you FAB9!

    Well worth it.

This is possibly the best mod for our little roadsters, in my opinion. Power delivery is smoother, crisp throttle response and a slight bump in HP, all combine to make an already enjoyable ride even more enjoyable. Installation was super easy, Fab9 sent a choice of tunes, I installed the 93 octane. There is also a way to enable launch control and flat shifting but I did not yet enable those two.

what the car should always have been

    ND N1 Calibration 93 Octane - PSM6 - RVMR TMG v1.28
My 2017 RFGT (ND1) now feels like the original NA with a direct connection between right foot and engine. It's as if there's no software deciding what I really mean when the throttle is pressed.
There is a noticeable extra push into the seatback when it gets on the cam just over four thousand RPM, a push that does not quit for the next three thousand. The sensation is much more than the dyno charts suggest. Now, entering a high speed ramp at 4K with the throttle pinned requires me to pay attention.
But the enjoyment is not just when it's on the boil. There is no more surging at low rpm! I can't get over how much less annoying it is to piddle along in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears in slow downtown traffic.
And the in between range allows smooth upshifts and easy heel and toe downshifts.
I thought my years had caught up with me with the clumsy shifting. This after putting literally ~1 million kilometers on manual transmission cars, some of that on race tracks. It wasn't me. It was Mazda.
Bryan and Fab9 have done a fabulous job.
Why oh why didn't I do this sooner? Never too old to learn, I guess.

Installed on my ND2 - WOW!

Posted by Jon Machado on Jul 25th 2023

I install VersaTuner on my ND2 Miata and provided N1 Tune from Fab9Tuning. They claim on an ND1 anywhere from 14-17WHP and on an ND2 7-11WHP... Pretty bold claim for an N/A tune without going to E85 or any bolt-ons and truthfully I was a bit apprehensive at first but because I knew I would eventually doing other modifications down the road I figured it would eventually come in handy, even if the claims weren't legit.

Well, I can't confirm through dyno numbers however my butt dyno suggests these figures are pretty accurate. There is a noticeable difference throughout the entire rev range and the throttle response is crisp. The overall feel of my car has been transformed and honestly beyond happy with this upgrade. A must have and definitely worth every penny! Would highly recommend to anyone running this platform!

    Bang for the buck investment

Posted by Onez Suena on Nov 1st 2022

Surprisingly, Fab9Tuning gave me 2 versions that I could load. 1st is for 91 octane gas, and 2nd for 93 octane. I loaded the 91 version and after a 20mi ecu-learning run:

    1. Power delivery was definitely smoother! There is a subtle increase in refinement in acceleration. It’s not night and day difference but since I have an utmost familiarity with my car’s behavior and the engine’s aural characteristic I can sense the enhancement introduced into the car.
    2. There is a detectable reduction in throttle lag. This is very impactful during periods of need for burst of power, and when at the very peak of spirited driving. I feel I need to recalibrate my right foot with the change in throttle response.
    3. Top speed — status quo. I would’ve been happy with even just a +3. But no. I committed 2 errors though. First, I was only using 91 octane gas whereas my previous runs were using 93 octane. Secondly, I had a full tank of gas. On later tests once I’ve consumed all the gas in the tank, I’ll load the 93 tune and fill up (quarter) with 93 octane. I’m expecting a +3 in top speed.

Would I recommend the $400 investment? Absolutely. It’s bang for the buck benefit compared to major investment in exhaust and intake. Oh! I am just waiting for my HKS Legamax Sport exhaust to arrive. But that will mostly be for the aural experience.

    Just amazing

Posted by Josh m on Oct 27th 2022

This tune completely transformed my ND in the Daily driver world it’s so much smoother and responsive. Also has a bit more power. But the time turn around for calibration from the team was really quick and they always responded fast to meet your needs it’s definitely worth every penny I’d give more then 5 stars if I could.

    Fab9 tune

Posted by Kyle Gray on Jun 24th 2022

Finally got my fab9 tune in this morning. For this just being a daily fun car it was worth every single penny. After installing GW race exhaust my mpg dropped maybe 3-4 avg, I'm now getting better than before, high 30s again. No more lag in between shifts and just all around better power and throttle response. Worth every penny!

    ND2 just got better

Posted by steve traficonte on Nov 5th 2021

I too was skeptical that a tune could improve on what Mazda had already done, but damn this car just got a shot of adrenaline. Otherwise completely stock, the tune provides a more responsive, and engaging interaction. Big thumbs up.

    Fab9 N1 Tune

Posted by Chris Rizzo on Apr 1st 2021

This is an amazing tune. Best mod I have done so far. I used my MacBook Pro running Windows 10 boot camp and it worked perfectly. Got my cable and 3 days and bryan helped me with any question I had. Definitely the best tune for the money!
