ACT Performance Clutch and Flywheel Combo

This combo is what we recommend for anyone who will be adding a turbo or supercharger.  ACT nailed the drivability with this kit. For a clutch to double the torque capacity at 310 ft lbs of torque, and to remain a nearly stock pedal feel is something us Miata guys had only dreamed of in the past.

This kit features ACT's most popular Heavy Duty pressure plate and most popular street disc. ACT Heavy Duty pressure plates use exclusive diaphragm design to increase clamp load, reduce deflection and maximize clutch life. All diaphragms endure a four-stage, heat-treating process for unparalleled performance. ACT pressure plates have precision cover stampings to provide rigidity and consistency. ACT's Performance Street discs feature premium organic materials with high copper content for better heat transfer and steel-backed lining for greater burst strength and durability. These discs have reduced marcel for faster shift action to complement ACT pressure plates, with increased strength and reliability.

Feel: Light to moderate pedal effort, smooth positive engagement, OE to mild gear rattle

ACT Stage 1 Performance Clutch & Flywheel

Posted by Dave on Aug 3rd 2023

I've had this clutch in the car for a few weeks and probably 400 miles so far. To me, the pedal feel is exactly the same as factory. I haven't noticed any abnormal vibrations, but my car is on stiff Ohlins and stiff AWR motor mounts, so it would be hard to notice if there were any as the whole car vibrates all the time. The biggest difference I've noticed is the improvement against rev hang. I don't think the ND particularly suffers much from rev hang in stock form, but if it's a compliant of yours, this will take care of it. I find the revs drop MUCH faster between shifts - to the point that I'm relearning the timing of my shifts and rev-matching.

Install is a complete pain, but not because of ACT. That's just the nature of the beast with this car since the ND trans tunnel is very narrow. We had to unbolt the motor mounts and tilt the backside of the engine toward the ground to gain a better angle to get the trans back in the car.

The initial clutch that showed up was beat to hell. ACT didn't box the item up in a shipping box and instead just slapped a shipping label directly onto the product and sent it out the door. I'm not one to complain, but it arrived so abused that I asked for a replacement and with picture evidence, Fab9 was happy to oblige. The second unit showed up in much better shape (I noticed ACT stepped up their packaging game on the second unit).
