Zestek SCX / SCX Pro Programmable Paddle Shifter Steering Wheel Hub
The Zestek SCX and SCX Pro Racing Steering Wheel Hubs transform an aftermarket steering wheel into a complete, programmable driver interface.
Combining magnetic paddle shifters, programmable controls, RGB illumination, vehicle communication, and an advanced motorsport quick-release system into a single compact assembly, the SCX platform is an exceptionally clean solution for performance street cars, dedicated race cars, transmission conversions, and custom vehicle integrations.
Two versions are available: SCX and SCX Pro. Choosing the correct version depends primarily on how the hub will communicate with your vehicle.
SCX vs. SCX Pro — Which One Do I Need?
SCX – Factory CAN Bus Applications
The standard SCX is intended for vehicles communicating through a supported factory/OEM CAN bus.
If your vehicle retains its factory ECU and CAN network and you're looking to add the SCX's paddle shifting and steering-wheel control functionality, the standard SCX is typically the appropriate choice.
Choose SCX if:
- You're using a supported factory ECU
- The vehicle retains its OEM CAN bus
- You do not need direct communication with an aftermarket ECU CAN network
SCX Pro – Aftermarket CAN Bus Applications
The SCX Pro expands the system's capabilities to support aftermarket CAN bus communication.
If your vehicle uses a standalone ECU or other aftermarket CAN-based control system, you'll want the SCX Pro.
This includes popular systems such as:
- Haltech
- MaxxECU
- Aftermarket transmission controllers
- Custom CAN networks
- Motorsport electronics
- Other compatible standalone ECU systems
If your vehicle is Haltech or MaxxECU equipped, select SCX Pro.
The Pro's aftermarket CAN capability makes it particularly useful for race cars, engine swaps, transmission conversions, and heavily modified vehicles where the factory ECU is no longer responsible for the vehicle's primary communications.
Advanced Quick Release — Included
Both the SCX and SCX Pro include Zestek's advanced V2 quick-release system.
Unlike a conventional mechanical quick release, the Zestek system integrates the steering wheel's electrical connection directly into the quick-release assembly through a pogo-pin interface.
Remove the steering wheel and there are no separate electrical connectors or coiled cables to unplug. Reinstall the wheel and the electrical connection is automatically restored.
This allows the paddles, programmable buttons, RGB lighting, and communication functions to remain integrated into a clean, removable steering wheel assembly.
Magnetic Paddle Shifters
Integrated V2.0 magnetic paddle shifters provide a crisp, positive shift action suitable for modern automatic transmissions, DCT systems, sequential gearboxes, and standalone transmission controllers.
Applications can include:
- ZF 8HP conversions
- DCT transmission swaps
- Sequential transmissions
- Standalone transmission controllers
- Paddle-shifted race cars
- Custom CAN-based drivetrain systems
Programmable Steering Wheel Controls
The SCX platform is considerably more than a paddle shifter.
Integrated programmable controls allow frequently used vehicle functions to be moved directly to the steering wheel, reducing the need for separate switches and allowing the driver to access critical functions without removing their hands from the wheel.
Depending on your vehicle, ECU, and CAN configuration, functions can include:
- Upshift / Downshift
- Launch Control
- Rolling Anti-Lag
- Pit Limiter
- Boost Functions
- Traction Control Adjustment
- ECU Map Selection
- Transmission Modes
- Auxiliary Outputs
- Driver Requests
- Horn
- Other CAN-controlled functions
Individually configurable RGB illumination can also provide visual identification and feedback for different vehicle functions.
Ideal for Standalone ECU Applications
For a modern standalone-controlled vehicle, the SCX Pro provides a powerful way to bring CAN-based ECU functions directly to the steering wheel.
Haltech and MaxxECU-equipped cars are excellent examples. Instead of wiring individual switches throughout the cockpit, supported functions can be incorporated into a centralized steering-wheel control interface.
This makes the SCX Pro an excellent option for road racing, time attack, autocross, endurance racing, drift cars, restomods, engine swaps, and high-performance street vehicles.
Fab9 ZF8HP Integration
The SCX platform is also one of our preferred paddle-shift solutions for ZF8HP transmission conversions.
For a Fab9 ZF8HP vehicle using a factory ECU and supported OEM CAN communication, the standard SCX may be appropriate.
For vehicles utilizing an aftermarket CAN network—such as our Haltech-controlled ZF8HP applications—the SCX Pro is required.
The magnetic paddles provide upshift and downshift requests while the additional programmable controls can be utilized for engine, transmission, and vehicle functions.
