Fab9 Custom Forced-Induction Calibration

1990–2005 Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA/NB)

When it comes to tuning a forced-induction NA or NB Miata, experience matters.

We’ve spent years calibrating turbocharged and supercharged Miatas across an enormous range of engine, fuel-system, sensor, and ECU combinations. From responsive street cars on stock engines to fully built, high-output track setups, we understand what it takes to make these cars produce reliable power without sacrificing drivability.

This is not a generic mail-order tune. Every calibration is developed specifically for your vehicle, ECU, engine, and hardware combination with the goal of delivering:

  • Maximum safe horsepower
  • Excellent street drivability
  • Reliable cold starts
  • Stable idle quality
  • Smooth, predictable power delivery
  • Consistent boost control
  • Proper fuel delivery
  • Reliable long-term operation

Our goal isn’t simply to produce an impressive dyno number. It’s to make your Miata perform properly everywhere—from startup and normal cruising to full boost and redline.

Why Fab9?

We have extensive experience developing forced-induction calibrations for both NA and NB Miatas.

These platforms have been modified with nearly every imaginable combination of turbocharger, supercharger, injector, fuel system, sensor package, engine configuration, and standalone ECU. Successfully calibrating them requires more than adjusting fuel and ignition at wide-open throttle.

We understand how these systems work together—and how to identify the hardware, wiring, sensor, and configuration issues that frequently prevent older Miata builds from performing as intended.

Many shops can make a few dyno pulls.

We take the time to sort the complete combination.

What’s Included

Every custom forced-induction calibration includes:

  • Complete custom ECU calibration
  • Injector characterization and configuration
  • Fuel-table optimization
  • Ignition-table calibration
  • Airflow and load-model configuration
  • MAP sensor configuration
  • Boost-control optimization, when supported
  • Cold-start refinement
  • Warm-up enrichment calibration
  • Idle tuning
  • Part-throttle drivability refinement
  • Wide-open-throttle optimization
  • Datalog review and revisions
  • Calibration updates until the combination is properly sorted

Our process continues until the vehicle performs as intended, provided the installed hardware and mechanical condition of the vehicle allow it.

Live Tuning Sessions

Some combinations are better suited to a live remote tuning session than traditional datalog-based revisions.

If we determine that your setup would benefit from a live session, there is no additional tuning fee. We’ll schedule a time to connect and work through the calibration in real time.

Live sessions can be especially helpful when resolving startup, idle, transient-fueling, boost-control, or other conditions that are difficult to capture through standard driving logs.

Hardware and Vehicle Requirements

A successful calibration begins with a mechanically sound vehicle and properly configured hardware.

Depending on your combination, we may request:

  • Injector manufacturer and part number
  • Injector flow-rate data
  • Injector offset/dead-time data
  • Base fuel-pressure information
  • MAP sensor specifications
  • Wideband oxygen-sensor information
  • Boost-control solenoid specifications
  • Trigger-system configuration
  • Engine displacement and compression ratio
  • Turbocharger or supercharger specifications
  • Current ECU calibration and datalogs

After reviewing your base calibration and initial logs, we’ll determine whether the installed components are appropriate and correctly configured.

If an injector lacks usable characterization data, a sensor is incorrectly calibrated, or a component cannot be controlled accurately by the selected ECU, we may recommend replacing it with a known and proven alternative.

The initial base map and first round of logs allow us to identify these concerns early and guide you toward the best solution.

Supported Configurations

This service is intended for most forced-induction NA and NB Miata combinations, including:

  • Turbocharger systems
  • Supercharger systems
  • Stock-engine combinations
  • Forged-engine builds
  • 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter engines
  • Engine-swap combinations, when approved
  • Pump gasoline
  • E85 and flex-fuel setups, when supported
  • Upgraded injectors

Please contact us before purchasing if you have an uncommon engine swap, ECU, trigger arrangement, staged-injection system, or highly customized combination.

Our Tuning Philosophy

Making power is the easy part.

Making an older, modified Miata start consistently, idle properly, respond cleanly, cruise smoothly, and deliver predictable power under boost requires considerably more effort.

We take the time to develop a calibration that provides:

  • Predictable throttle response
  • Smooth power delivery
  • Stable idle and cold-start behavior
  • Excellent street drivability
  • Reliable operation
  • Confidence on both the street and track

Our reputation has been built by developing calibrations that customers can enjoy every day—not tunes intended only to survive a single dyno pull.

Important: This calibration service requires a supported programmable ECU or standalone engine-management system that is already installed, wired correctly, and communicating with its tuning software. ECU hardware, software licenses, cables, and wideband equipment are not included unless specifically selected or purchased separately. Contact us before ordering if you are uncertain whether your ECU or vehicle combination is supported.
